Manipulatives are objects (as blocks) that a student is instructed to use in a way that teaches or reinforces a lesson

1.     Discuss the advantages of the format.

-       Manipulative allow children to represent mathematical ideas without words.

-       Manipulatives are supposed to be good for students because they are concrete.

-       Computers offer a manageable, clean manipulative.

-       Teachers love this for all subjects

2.    Discuss the disadvantages of the format. 

-       Manipulatives do not guarantee success

-       Can be expensive

-       Take up space

-       Parts can be lost

-       Germs can be spreaded

3.    Discuss the implications for collection development.

Selection should be not only be made by the LMS but she should get some ideas of what the teachers would like for her to purchase.

4.    Discuss possible copyright considerations of the format.

There are no copyright issues unless you try to sell it.
