During the 1990s, I was ready to embark on an educational career, but physicians at UAB hospital had diagnosed me with an acute disability.  They had stated that physical abilities were limited.  However, I had interpreted this as being incompetent.  I was so devastated about the fact that I could not matriculate at a university to progress toward a career.  I had very low self-esteem because my skin complexion had changed pigmentations and eyes were jaundiced.  I was sleeping twelve hours (12) or more a day because of severely bile duct blockage that had caused me to become fatigued.  I had become healthy on May 29, 1996.  I had a liver transplant on this day.  I have been vibrant for twelve years now.  I had awakened on May 30, 1996 in a private room at UAB hospital.  I could not believe this transformation.  The pigmentations of my skin and eyes were normal. This was a breath of fresh air and new life.

I was contemplating about an occupation that would require minimal physical stress.  One of the reasons for pursuing undergraduate and graduate studies in education was for insurance benefits.  I pay a total cost of $87.00 a month for all medicines.  PEEHIP pays the other amounts.  One doctor prescribes a prescription twice a day that costs approximately $1,200.00.  I have had many obstacles for several years that blocked my path to success.  I can truly say that I am blessed.  I thank the Lord for allowing me to prevail and endure strength though out the challenges in my life.

Furthermore, I was able to accomplish my goals.  I have matriculated and received degrees from Lawson State Community College, Stillman University, and University of Alabama (Tuscaloosa). Since I have matriculated at public and graduate schools, I have accepted the fact that I am ready to embark on a career in higher education as a key stakeholder in the implementation of the instructional curriculum to improve intuitive skills for life-long learning.  My perception was that library science provided various opportunities in the educational realm.  As an ambitious leader, I have always wanted to choose a career that will embrace diversity, optimize learning, and enhance quality of life within and beyond the collegiate environment.  Learning has a profound impact on critical thinking, research, writing, and communication skills.   This facet has intrigued me to focus on research and interdisciplinary aspects of information literacy.
