Passport to Follett's OPAC
Research Skills:
- To use pictures and print to gather information, alphabetical order to locate information and the library catalog to locate reading and research materials.
- To summarize and organize by taking notes or outlining and to acquire inforamtion from on-line resources
Grades: 3-5
Purpose:

To practice locating a book by title, author, or subject.

To idenitfy the elements of a library record.
Prerequisite Skills:
Beginning knowledge of searching by title, author, subject, or keyword
Format: Student Brochure
Materials:
OPAC Passport for each student
OPAC stations
pencils
OPAC Ready Reference chart for each OPAC station
stickers/rubber stamps
Advance Preparation:
1. Make enough OPAC Passports for each class. Cut them out and fold them into brochures.
2. Make sure all of the computers are on and have OPAC on each screen.
3. Provide pencils next to each computer.
4. Make copies of the OPAC Ready Reference chart for each OPAC station and mount it on the side of each monitor at each station.
Activity Directions:
1. In groups of two, students will access the OPAC and complete 10 questions in the student OPAC brochure. Passports are earned in paris, with one student answering the odd question and the other student answering the even question. Both students need to write the answers in their passport.
2. After each question, the students raise their hands to be checked by myself as the librarian. If the answer is correct, they receive a sticker or initial in the "Customs Check" box. If the answer is incorrect, they receive assitance and a review.
3. After all 10 stickers or signatures are earned, students earn their Passport to the Library. A special sticker or rubber stamp will be provided for the last page.
