1. Alabama Instructional Media Association (AIMA)

Mission:

The purposes and objectives of the Alabama Instructional Media

Association are:

  • to promote the effective use of instructional media.
  • to keep educators adequately informed about media services

    and materials.

  • to recruit personnel and to encourage and promote professional

    growth.

  • to serve as an organization to coordinate research on

    evaluation in the use of instructional media.

  • to plan and conduct long range programs for the development

    and improvement of instructional media in general, and to

    cooperate with other organizations and agencies whose

    interests and purposes are similar to this organization.

  • to provide a framework for members to meet on state level as

    well as the district level

Roles of organization in respect to LMS:

AIMA (Alabama Instructional Media Association) is a professional

organization dedicated to the improvement of instruction through the

utilization of media and technology.  It provides a forum for school

library media specialists, administrators, curriculum specialists,

teachers, library media educators, graduate students, professional

association leaders, and retired library media professionals, to

promote excellence in education in Alabama through effective school

library media programs.

3. Southeastern Library Association (SELA)

Mission:

The Southeastern Library Association has been a unifying force strong enough to influence legislation and to attract foundation and federal funds for regional library projects. The accomplishments of the Association include two regional library surveys; the adoption of school library standards; the establishment of state library agencies and the position of state school library supervisor; the founding of library schools; the sponsoring of a variety of informative workshops; and the publication of significant regional research and a professional journal which has received national recognition.

To advocate for library in the government

The Southeastern Librarian (SELn) is the official publication of the Southeastern Library Association (SELA). The quarterly publication seeks to publish articles, announcements, and news of professional interest to the library community in the southeast. The publication also represents a significant means for addressing the Association's research objective. Two newsletter-style issues serve as a vehicle for conducting Association business, and two issues include juried articles.

6. International Association of School Librarianship (IASL)

Mission:

The mission of the International Association of School Librarianship (IASL) is to provide an international forum for those people interested in promoting effective school library media programs as viable instruments in the educational process. IASL also provides guidance and advice for the development of school library programs and the school library profession. IASL works in cooperation with other professional associations and agencies.

Membership is worldwide, and includes school librarians, teachers, librarians, library advisers, consultants, educational administrators, and others who are responsible for library and information services in schools. The membership also includes professors and instructors in universities and colleges where there are programmes for school librarians, and students who are undertaking such programmes.

Roles of organization in respect to LMS:

  • To advocate the development of school libraries throughout all countries;
  • To encourage the integration of school library programs into the instructional and curriculum development of the school;
  • To promote the professional preparation and continuing education of school library personnel;
  • To foster an extend relationships between school librarians and other professions in connection with children and youth;
  • To foster research in the field of school librarianship and the intregration of its conclusions with pertinent knowledge from related fields;
  • To promote the publication and dissemination of information about successful advocacy and program initiatives in school librarianship;
  • To share information about programs and materials for children and youth throughout the international community;
  • To initiate and coordinate activities, conferences and other projects in the field of school librarianship and information services.

Mission:

The Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT) is a professional association of thousands of educators and others whose activities are directed towards improving instruction through technology. AECT members may be in found colleges and universities; in the Armed Forces and industry; in museums, libraries, and hospitals; in the many places where educational change is underway. AECT members carry out a wide range of responsibilities in the study, planning, application, and production of communications media for instruction.
