Games
A game is a structured activity usually undertaken for enjoyment and sometimes also used as an educational tool. Games are generally distinct from work, which is usually carried out for remuneration, and from art, which is more concerned with the expression of ideas.
Advantages
  • Games generally involve mental or physical stimulation
  • Games give individuals immediately feedback
  • A game is a form of art in which participants, get to make decisions and help individuals solve problems
Disadvantages
·         Games are expensive
·         Games are time consuming
·         Games are bulgur
Implications for Collection Development
According to Kay Bishop from collection program in schools, games can serve many purposes, but it is wise to get input from teachers and administrators on the inclusion of games in the collection and whether to make them available for use in a media center. Some teachers may agree with games in the library and some may not. Personally I rather have games in the media centers that are educational and computer based.
Copyright considerations of the format
Copyright considerations are generally not involved with games, unless the games are in a different format, such as on the computer.
