Narrative for Technology In-Service

This PowerPoint Presentation will focus on Wikis. Wikis will be introduced to teachers using descriptions of wikis, ideas about possible uses for wikis in their classrooms, and videos demonstrating how to post/edit, link, and create a page on a wiki. Participants in the in-service will set up a wiki, post to the wiki, and link on the wiki as activities connected with the presentation.

Activities:

Participants will notified in advance that they will need to come to the presentation with two email addresses that they can access immediate from the computer lab at school. Assistance will be offered in setting up email accounts prior to the in-service.

Activity one: Creating a wiki for book rating.

Materials needed:

• PB Works http://pbworks.com/
• Computer lab
• Smart board
• Two email addresses that can be accessed immediately from the computer lab.

I will use a Smart board to demonstrate the steps involved in setting up a wiki account. Participants will set up a wiki account to use in their classrooms.

Activity two: Editing/Posting and linking on the wiki.

Materials needed:

• PB Works http://pbworks.com/
• Computer lab
• Smart board

Activity three: Creating a new page on the wiki.

• Computer lab
• Smart board

I will use a Smart board to demonstrate the steps involved in creating a new page on the wiki. Participants will create a new page on their wikis.

Handouts:

Participants will receive a printed copy of the PowerPoint presentation which will include steps for: setting up a wiki, editing/posting to the wiki, linking on the wiki, and for creating a new page on the wiki. Participants can refer to the printed copy of the PowerPoint during the presentation and as a reference source for future work with the wiki.
