Media Formats “Kits.”

Kits are materials grouped together to explore a particular topic.

Advantages:

·      Often provide learning materials on a particular subject in a variety of formats.

·      The LMS, teachers, or students can create Kits.

·      Kits with audio can allow students to explore ideas that may be above their reading level.

Disadvantages:

·      Can be expensive

·      Materials may not be appropriate for all grades

·      Lost or damaged parts to the kit may render the kit useable

Implications for collection and development:

Kits should be selected based on how often they will be circulated. Kits should be selected that have replaceable parts. The LMS, teachers, and students can create Kits.

Copyright considerations:

Non-consumable reading materials in the kit may not be copied.
