The DeWitt Wallace–Reader's Digest Fund initiates Library Power, a 10-year, $40-million-grant project for the revitalization of school library media programs across the United States.

The revitalization of the school library media programs acknowledged the necessity and importance of school libraries.  This project began a regeneration that has led to school libraries becoming an intricate part of the educational community.  Libraries are no longer considered a place to check out books but they are also recognized as the “hub” of schools.
