IV. Activities:
Purpose: Each activity will be completed in order to grade the school library on each type of accessibility. The purpose of this in-service is to inform the faculty and staff of how the library should accommodate the school as well as the community we serve.
Objective: After the introduction of each type of accessibility, the faculty will be able to observe each type of accessibility through a series of three activities:
Intellectual: The faculty will be divided into groups. This activity will show teachers how to critically evaluate websites and how to teach their students how to evaluate a web page for authenticity, applicability, authorship, bias, and usability. The ability to critically evaluate information is an important skill in this information age. First, teachers will go to this web site for a teacher web evaluation sheet, http://kathyschrock.net/abceval/teacherwebeval.pdf. Then teachers will go to http://school.discoveryeducation.com/schrockguide/eval.html to evaluate different sites using the teacher web evaluation sheet. We will reconvene at the designated time to share evaluations.
Physical: The faculty will work in groups to design a floor plan for the media center that will best meet the needs of the school population. After the floor plans have been developed we will vote on the best floor plan. The design winner will then be implemented into the media center.
Organizational: Each faculty member will be handed a index card with directions to find a particular item located in the media center.
Methodolgy: Faculty, paper, pencil, Computer lab with Internet access
Assessment: The overall assessment will be determined by the scores given before and after the presentation.
