Charts

Charts can be a very useful tool in both the library media center and the regular classroom. They can be used to illustrate different procedures and processes to posting rules. Charts can be versatile in both size and color. Students can actually write on them or just view the material written on them. They can illustrate skills while at the same time brighten an area.

Implications for Collection Development

Charts are still very popular teaching tools for the library as well as the classroom. If you purchase charts make sure they have more information to share with the class on the back side. Laminating is a must to protect the chart from damage and discoloration. If it is a chart that will be handled by students you may need to purchase more than one because of its lack of durability. If the chart is laminated it can be written on with a wipe off marker and reused for another class.

Copyright Considerations

As a general rule  you can make one copy of a chart. If you have a question about whether it is copyrighted you should check with the publisher.
