Library Month Sign-Up Card- Celebrate National Libaray Sign-Up Card Month. September 1-30 invite librarian from the public library to visit classrooms to bring applications and talk to students about advantages of having a library card.
Children's Safety Week (1st week)- Invite police officers, firefighters, bus drivers, and others to practice safety advice by providing resources to studnets.
International Literacy Day (Sept. 8th)- Participate in a readathon, kick off across grade reading buddy program, or making books to share with others in the community.
Patriotic Day (Sept. 11th)- Students will participate in a moment of silence. Using a web blog students will write their explanations why this date is now called Partiotic Day?

Celebrate Safe Communities
Crime Prevention Month- McGruff the Crime Dog will visit the school.
Fire Prevention Week (Oct. 4-10)- Learn about fire safety and prevention. Firefighters, Law Enforcement, and EMS will come to read to students as well as talk to them about the importance of fire safety. Kids will be taught Exit Drills, Stop, Drop, and Roll procedures, importance of not playing matches, and how to dial 911.
November
National Family Literacy (Nov. 1st)
Passport to Literacy Volunteers from five different countries read stories about their culture at different culturally decorated reading stations. After reading the volunteers will place a stamp in the studnets passport book to show that they have been to that country.
Invite parents, grandparents, and other family members to our school for a family reading night.
Honor A Veteran (Nov. 11) Participate in a poetry contest to honor past and present veterans. Past and present veterans will come to classrooms to read Pepper's Purple Heart, The Wall, America: A Patriotic Primer, and Veteran's Day.
Plymouth Plantation (Week before Thanksgiving) Virtual tour of Plymouth Plantation. Get on board and let's head off to Plymouth Plantation! Find out what life was like for early Pilgrams.
December
National Read A New Book Month- Entire school community is challenged to read five new books for the month of December.
National Cookie Month (Dec. 4th) Students will listen to various versions of Gingerbread Man. Students will complete a Gingerbread Glyph, make gingerbread oranaments, gingerbread cookies, or a gingerbread house.
Family Reading Night (Dec. 17th) Parents and students will participate in this fun filled night. Enjoy stories from the mayor and the superintendent, pictures with Santa and Ms. Claus, arts and crafts, gift wrapping, warm apple cider, and hot tea.
Januarary
New Years Resolution After returning from the Christmas/Winter Break students will reflect on the past year and prepare for a positive fresh start to the new year. Using wiki students will write a New Years Resolution in a group activity that will inspire students.
Happy Birthday Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (Jan. 15th) School wide parade and poster contest. Students write their own I Have A Dream speech,

Black History Month Kids come face to face with historical figures, captivated by great stories, and get creative with kente cloth crafts.
Library Lovers Month Design your favorite book cover, diorama (create their own favorite story), and library scavengar hunt
March
Women's History Month Pay tribute to women and issues that have impacted our lives.
Read Across America Week (Mar. 1st-5th) Fun filled week with community members reading books to students, parades, and reading assemblies. All activities will be releated to the renowned author Dr. Suess (Theodor Giesel). Monday students will wear their craziest hat for the book The Cat in the Hat, Tuesday students will wear pajamas for the book I Am Not Going to Get Up Today!, Wednesday students will wear mismatch or wacky outfits for the book And to Think I Saw It On Mulberry, Friday students will wear read and blue for the book One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish.

School Library Media Month and National Library Week (Apr. 13th-19th) Literacy workshop, invite legislature, and webinars on standards
Go Freen (Apr. 22nd) Collaborate with grade levels to discuss the importance of protecting Earth. Teach students about recycling, reducing, and reusing items,
May
National Children's Book Week Students will read Childeren's Choice Finalist in their grade range. Students will select his or her favorite book considering specific elements such as characters or plot. Each student will design a book cover that convince others that his or her favorite should win. Book covers will displayed with books in the classroom, school display, or on a bulletin board.
Teacher Appreciation Week (May 3rd-7th) In celebration of Teacher Appreciation Week we will read about a teacher such as Thank You, Mr. Falker, Miss Nelson is Missing, or a Magic School Bus Story with Ms. Frizzle. Follow up activities: compare favorite teacher to a teacher from a book (Venn Diagram), write a letter to a favorite teacher, create a character map of your teacher.
Picnic on the Lawn (May 21) School wide picnic. Students, teachers, administrator, parent, and community will enjoy setting on the lawn with eating sack lunches reading books and listening to live entertainment.
