The media center being evaluated serves students in grades first through third.  This evaluation access the library media programs to meet student needs.  This evaluation will be a guide for for future planning the media center. This evaluation will be based on the Library Media Program Admininstration Evaluation Form.

Administration

The media center I evaluated is advanced.  The media specialist has been a media specialist for thirteen years.  The is no aide or volunteers.  The budget is very small however the money is spent in a well consumed mannner.  The collection material for the most part is up-to-date.  There is a policies and procedures manuel that is in place that is followed and implemented.  The media center has a fixed schedule.  Each class is scheduled thirty minutes  a week. Class are scheduled to visit various times weekly.  Media specialist does not collaborate or plan lesson with teachers.  There are no structured activities or lesson plans taught to implement literacy standardss.  There is a library advisory committee in place.  The media specialist rarely ask for teachers input, teacehers request for various materials (books, magazines, audio, movies, and etc,) early.   A thirty minute movie is scheduled for weekly activities. Students are sometimes bored with the  media centers environment.

Facility

The media center facility is advanced.  The media center is located near the entrance of the school.  Inside the media center is a card catalog that is rarely used.  There are two computers used for miscellanous uses.  There is enough space for two class to meet.  Towards the back of the library is huge reading nook that would be great for storytimes.  The shelves and circulation desk are the apporiate height for elementary students. There is an office and storage are located in the media center.  The computer lab is adjacent to the media center with twelve Internet accessed computers,  More books need to purchase for studenets.  There are very few books on audio for listening centers.  The library contains several VHS and DVDs.  The library is very big and beautiful facility it is just not use to its advantage.

In conclusion, the overall media center is accessed as advanced.  The media center can be the state of the ark if it used properly and if the services are catered to the needs of the students and provides the materials teachers need to help them enhance students learning.
