Amy Brock Videotapes

Page history last edited by PBworks 3 years, 7 months ago

Videotapes can have both audio and video recoreded on them simultaneously.  They are still purchased by libraries today but slowly phasing out to DVDs.

Advantages of videotapes are:

  • They can be stopped and replayed.
  • They are easy to store.
  • They can be showed to multiple students at the same time.

Disadvantages of videotapes are:

Compatible equipment is necessary.

They are bulkier than DVDs for storage.

The magnetic tape is easier to mess up than a DVD.

Implications for Collection Development

This format is popular because of its ease of use.  Material should be previewed before purchase is possible to check for appropriateness.  Use for intervention or re-teaching lessons may be helpful.

Copyright Considerations

An enitre video and not be altered without permission.  Off-air recordings can only be kept for forty-five days.  They may be showed twice to a class within ten teaching days.
