Advantages of using photographs:

Disadvantages of using photographs are:

Size and distance can be distorted.

Lack of color can limit interpretation.

Motion can not be simulated.

If not protected properly they can be destroyed.

Storage space may not be available.
Implications for Collection Development
Many photographs are available online and can be projected therefore they may not need to be purchased. If they are purchased and circulated they should be laminated for protection. Look for photos that have descriptions on the back for use with lessons.
Copyright Considerations
A photograph can not be copied and used for other purposes without permission. Only one photo may be copied from a periodical as part of fair use.
